The recent collaboration between artists Efdot and Amber Vittoria, released Oct. 24, has yielded a stunning two-piece artwork titled “As Above, So Below.” In this creative endeavor, the two artists and longtime friends merged their unique styles and sensibilities to produce one interactive NFT edition.

Efdot, known for his distinct use of color and form, expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with artists like Vittoria, who share his creative vision. He emphasized the trust and understanding that underpins their collaborative process, built upon countless conversations about the “why” and “how” of art-making.

“We’re always sharing new materials and techniques with each other, and this visit was no different,” he shared.

Amber Vittoria, whose previous collaborations with Efdot date back to her time in New York City, also shared insights into their creative partnership.

“Whenever I collaborate with another artist in tandem versus volleying back and forth over email, I’m not precious about if my style shines through; I aim to focus on the celebration of creating together,” Vittoria said. “With that said, it’s a lovely surprise to see how balanced we each are in these. Then again, I’ve known Eric for a long while, so a level of trust also aids in this collaboration.”

The “As Above, So Below” pieces were born during Efdot’s visit to Los Angeles in October. Amber and her husband hosted him for several days during his stay, and the artists crafted a series of artworks in Amber’s studio. Their collaboration drew inspiration from the concept of harmony and paid homage to LA skate culture, a shared passion for both artists.

“[Efdot] brought this beautiful embossed paper he thought I’d like to paint on,” Vittoria said. “And then we both sat down and started to create pieces to give to each other.”

Despite the casual inception of their collaboration, the results are striking. The artists spent several hours experimenting with different approaches, taking turns initiating compositions and exploring various tools such as oil sticks and colored pencils. The pieces that emerged hold special significance for Amber, as they showcase the strength of loose, free-flowing, colorful lines.

“My best work comes from play, so these pieces are quite special to me,” Vittoria said.

When asked about the significance of this body of art, Amber Vittoria emphasized that this collaboration places the focus on the shared experience of creating together rather than fixating on individual works. She highlighted a departure from her recent precision-oriented works, as these pieces draw strength from the spontaneous movement of lines. For collectors, she hopes these artworks serve as a reminder of levity, joy, and the importance of always embracing playfulness in the creative process.

“As Above, So Below” is out now on Manifold and is an edition of 30, priced at 0.1 ETH each. Holders can only mint two per wallet.
