Asprey Studio’s “Silver Scream” is officially headed to Christie’s.

The auction house is offering a limited edition of Edvard Munch’s famed monochrome masterpiece, “The Scream” from 1895, sourced from the Art Institute of Chicago archive via Bridgeman Images. The work appears in Lot 18 of Christie’s Beyond the Screen online auction, which runs between May 31 and June 11.

Boasting a starting bid of $10,000 and an estimated range between $20,000 and $30,000, this reimagined artwork is crafted by Asprey Studio, a division of the prestigious 243-year-old English luxury house, Asprey.

The evocative piece has been meticulously recreated on sterling silver sheets, oxidized using the original lithograph, and expertly handcrafted by Asprey’s master silversmiths in London, with final touches by master engravers.

“It was a controlled and transformative process to capture our interpretation of ‘Scream.’ The physical pieces will be hand-block oxidized on sterling silver, adorned with ‘silver dust’ from our polishing room, creating a subtle patina that makes each one unique,” says Asprey Studio’s chief creative officer Ali Walker.

To ensure its permanence, each Silver Scream piece is digitally linked through Bitcoin Ordinals. This method encodes the artwork into a clean vector format that precisely translates the original lithograph, creating a parent/child inscription where the parent represents the original image.

“It was a controlled and transformative process to capture our interpretation of ‘Scream.'”

“It adds a new level of collectability and another element you can’t do in Ethereum,” Walker said of Ordinals in our January interview. “I think it could be a more premium level of blockchain for artists in the future. At the moment, I think many people aren’t using it right. They’re rushing through, inscribing as much crap as they can, and not paying attention to what they’re inscribing on. But I think that’s going to change. You’ll see some top artists and brands enter Ordinals fairly soon.”

As Edvard Munch once described the inspiration behind The Scream: “I walked with two friends. Then the sun sank. Suddenly the sky turned as red as blood … My friends walked on, and I was left alone, trembling with fear. I felt as if all nature were filled with one mighty unending shriek.”

Asprey Studio invites art enthusiasts to view Silver Scream at Christie’s, located at 20 Rockefeller Center, from June 7 to 11, between 10 a.m and 5 p.m. For further information, visit Asprey Studio’s website.
