Bored Ape Sotheby’s Auction Closes at $24.4 Million
Well, that’s a wrap on another major milestone in NFT history! Less than five months following the project’s launch, a collection of 101 Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs just fetched $24.4 million at Sotheby’s.
This isn’t the first time NFTs have passed through Sotheby’s’ (virtual) doors, and it surely won’t be the last. Following up on June’s Natively Digital collection, the auction house giant offered up a collection of 101 Bored Apes and 101 Bored Ape Kennel Club dogs from September 2-9.
The Bored Ape Kennel Club lot closed at $1.8 million, bringing the auction’s grand total to $26.3 million.
“What a historic moment for the club,” the official Bored Ape Yacht Club account tweeted shortly following the sale. “Congratulations and THANK YOU to the whole ape community. To the buyer, I think we speak for everybody when we say: WELCOME TO THE CLUB.”
Bored Ape Yacht Club is currently enjoying a moment in the spotlight. After the project’s successful Mutant Ape Yacht Club launch last month, attention now turns to Christie’s’ upcoming No Time Like Present auction in Hong Kong from September 17-28, which also includes a lot of Bored Apes.
