Highly anticipated Bitcoin Ordinals collection, Taproot Wizards, has announced its public sale date of March 25. The collection of 2,121 unique Wizards will be available in two phases: a whitelist sale priced at 0.2 BTC, followed by a public Dutch auction.
Taproot Wizards previously made waves with its Quantum Cats collection, the top-ranked Bitcoin NFT project by market cap. Quantum Cats holders who own two “entangled” cats — meaning one with the “alive” trait and one with the “dead” trait — will have access to discounted Taproot Wizards mints at 0.1 BTC.
The Taproot Wizards collection pays homage to the iconic 2013 Bitcoin Wizard meme, a nostalgic nod to Bitcoin’s early culture. Each collectible is permanently inscribed on the Bitcoin blockchain using Ordinals, adding to the collection’s exclusivity. Although these Wizards were inscribed two years ago, they have never been available for sale until now, building substantial anticipation among collectors.
Getting on the whitelist wasn’t just a matter of signing up — hopeful participants had to complete whimsical “quests,” including one that required recording a video of themselves showering in a wizard costume and posting it on social media.
In January 2024, Taproot Wizards launched its Quantum Cats collection, priced at 0.1 BTC. The collection sold out within minutes, underscoring strong demand for Bitcoin Ordinals. Following this success, Taproot Wizards secured $30 million in funding led by Standard Crypto in February 2025, signaling growing institutional support for Bitcoin-native projects.
This funding will fuel development in the OP_CAT ecosystem — a Bitcoin Improvement Proposal (BIP) that revives a smart contract feature originally included by Satoshi Nakamoto but later disabled. The push to restore OP_CAT has gained traction among Bitcoin developers, who believe it could unlock powerful new use cases on the network.
