Social media giant TikTok today (Sept. 30) announced the launch of its first-ever NFT project. Featuring a creator-led collection of culturally significant moments, the first auction is set to go live on Oct. 6.

For its inaugural collection, TikTok has curated an eclectic assortment of both crypto-native creators and contemporary superstars. Boasting a total of six 1/1 collaborative NFTs, “TikTok Top Moments” aims to further advance NFTs into pop culture via one of the world’s most popular social media platforms.

The project lineup pairs pop culture titans like Lil Nas X, Bella Poarch and Grimes with influential crypto-native creators like RTFKT, Coin Artist, and x0r.

TikTok’s genesis collection will be powered by Immutable X, a second-layer protocol for trading Ethereum NFTs that promises “instant trade confirmation, massive scalability, and no gas fees.” As the environmental impact of NFTs has been a point of contention this year, “TikTok Top Moments” aims to avoid any backlash on that front.

“As the creator economy continues to grow, we’re continually looking for new and differentiated ways to support our creators. Now, fans can own a moment on TikTok that helped shape the internet while supporting some of their favorite creators.”

Nick Tran, Global TikTok Head of Marketing

In addition to the 1/1 auctions, each video in the collection will be featured at a new TikTok exhibit, entitled “Infinite Duets: Co-Creating on TikTok.” From October 1 through November 5, the exhibit will be on display at the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens, New York.
