In a panel discussion hosted by Christie’s at Gateway Miami, the stage was set for an engaging conversation that delved into the fascinating world of digital art and Web3. Moderated by Sebastian Sanchez, Manager of Digital Art Sales at Christie’s, the panel featured two prominent figures in the art world: Jack Butcher, the artist and founder of Visualize Value, and AC, a renowned art collector and partner of 6529 Capital.

The discussion kicked off with Sanchez posing a question to Jack Butcher, unraveling the intriguing backstory of his widely acclaimed project, Checks VV, and how it soared to prominence within the Web3 landscape.

Butcher described Checks VV as the counterpart to another project called Opepen, likening the two to each other’s yin and yang. He took a moment to acknowledge the pivotal contributions of Jalil and Traf from his team, emphasizing their crucial role in the project’s success.

AC, with his deep-rooted passion for art, compared Christie’s evening sale to nothing less than the Super Bowl.

He shared a fascinating anecdote about his journey into the realm of generative art. It all began with his acquisition of Tyler Hobbs’ Fidenza #724, a purchase he made purely out of admiration for the artwork, without initially realizing its generative art nature. This acquisition, as AC fondly recalls, marked the starting point of his enduring fascination with generative art.

As the conversation unfolded, AC couldn’t help but express his admiration for Refik Anadol’s work.

“Attention on the physical scale is harder to get than on the digital scale, but [Anadol] nails it.”

Sanchez and Butcher then delved into the intriguing world of Checks Elements, undoubtedly a topic that left attendees with much to contemplate and explore further. The panelists wrapped up their discussion by underscoring the significance of The Simpsons featuring an episode dedicated to NFTs, as it marked a pivotal moment in taking digital art to the mainstream and further solidified its place in contemporary culture.

As generative art becomes increasingly popular, with major auction houses showcasing and auctioning them, it’s important to recognize that we are merely witnessing the initial stages of its evolution.
