NFL Alumni to Launch Web3 Experiences For Retired Players
The National Football League Alumni (NFLA) announced its partnership with enterprise blockchain Aventus to help create a Web3 experience in support of the organization’s wider mission of “Caring For Our Own.”
Since 1967, the NFLA has served as the oldest and most revered retired player organization in professional sports. Its membership includes thousands of retired players, coaches, front-office executives, spouses, cheerleaders, and avid fans.
The partnership, according to the press release, is intended to “empower retired NFL players by providing them with direct-to-fan communication with no geographical barriers and new revenue streams.”
“For almost 60 years, our mission has been to empower players in their post-NFL lives. This strategic partnership with Aventus enables us to even further expand our ability to achieve this mission, construct a more robust alumni-player NIL (name, image, likeness) vertical, and future proof the work we do for generations to come,” said NFLA CEO Brad Edwards.
While the announcement wasn’t specific on the when or the how of the upcoming collection, we do know that it will provide NFL fans with a spectrum of perks. This encompasses autographed goods, real-world and virtual interactions with notable NFL figures, and the chance for digital collectible holders to influence the project’s direction by voting on upcoming NFT releases.
It does state that holding one of these unnamed digital collectibles will allow holders the opportunity to “vote on key decisions” such as future NFT drops.
Alan Vey, Founder & CEO, of Aventus, added: “Next-generation technologies like Web3 and metaverse have huge potential to benefit us all and we’re excited to partner with the NFLA to help them realize this potential and support the important work they do.”
NFL Season for web3
In August, the NFL officially debuted its first-ever officially licensed game, in partnership with Mythical Games, that incorporates blockchain technology, which seems to have already had a successful start into the new 2023 season.
“NFL Rivals embodies a landmark collaboration between the NFL, the NFL Players Association (NFLPA), and next-gen blockchain gaming tech studio Mythical Games, that allows fans to step into the role of a general manager as they work to build and own their teams.
While the game is powered by the blockchain and other Web3 elements, it’s not something that players or the average consumer would even notice. Through arcade-style gameplay, players engage in competitive matches while ascending through the ranks. With regular updates, including new seasons and events, the game ensures that players will have an engaging and dynamic gameplay.
To kick off the NFL 2023 season, the Miami Dolphins franchise signed a deal with Mythical Games, marking the gaming studio’s first NFL partnership. Throughout the season, Dolphins fans will be able to see the NFL Rivals branding in the home stadium during games.
