NFL & Dapper Labs Announce NFT Marketplace Deal

September 29, 2021

Dapper Labs, creator of the popular NBA Top Shot platform, has announced a new deal with the NFL to create an NFT marketplace for digital football collectibles.

According to a report by Sports Business Journal, the platform will launch during the current NFL season. The partnership will make Dapper the NFL Players Association’s second-largest source of digital licensing revenue, only shadowed by the long-running “Madden” video game franchise.

While precise terms are unknown, this major announcement arrives only days after Dapper saw a $250 million funding round raise its valuation to a whopping $7.6 billion. This latest move will bring the NFL onto Dapper’s Flow blockchain as other sporting leagues, including the NHL and the UFC, look to bridge the gap into digital collectibles.

The news also comes only a month after the NFL informed teams that they were forbidden to sell sponsorships to cryptocurrency trading firms or engage in their own NFT projects.

With details yet to come, this forthcoming NFL NFT marketplace will surely take a page from NBA Top Shot’s video-centric collectibles format. Interested fans can join the waitlist at nfl.dapperlabs.com.
