Blake Kathryn on Working With Paris Hilton and Mental Health in NFTs

NFT Now Podcast Season: 1 Episode: 42

January 19, 2022

Over the past year, Blake Kathryn has become one of the most prominent artists in the NFT space. Yet, even before achieving crypto-art stardom, Kathryn had been creating visuals for top-tier brands like Instagram, Columbia Records, The New York Times and many more.

With her dreamy, vibrant catalog of works having been absorbed and assimilated throughout pop culture for years, it wasn’t a huge shock when it was revealed that she would be collaborating with Paris Hilton on a Nifty Gateway NFT drop. And while the finished product was fully laden with Kathryn’s signature style, she says the collection the two created was truly collaborative.

“She [Hilton] had already done so much prep work of just being like ‘I am inspired by this that you’ve done,’ and ‘this is how I interpret this.’ It was truly flattering,” Kathryn tells nft now. “She came back with almost equal reciprocation, which was so genuine… You could just see the time she spent onboarding herself into my work.”

On this episode of the nft now podcast, Kathryn discusses pivoting from client work to NFTs, where she finds inspiration, and more.

With her art having generated over $3.62 million in sales to date (according to CryptoArt.io), Kathryn has easily become a frontrunner of the NFT space. And with her newfound prestige, she’s continued to use her platform to be a mental health advocate for herself and others within the very regularly stressful NFT ecosystem.

“Teenagers today, or young folks, are so susceptible to other people’s attention or critiques or comments,” Kathryn tells nft now. “You have to take time and remember that we are still totally organic beings. We need to disconnect. Know what you can handle and what you can’t.”
