How NFTs and Crypto are Redefining the Music Industry with Jesse Grushack
Whether you’re a crypto OG or a complete NFT noob, you’ve undoubtedly been impacted by the work of Jesse Grushack. With over a decade of skin in the game, Grushack has been involved in groundbreaking projects that reach towards every sector of the Ethereum blockchain.
From advising and empowering artists to helping develop the tools that countless developers depend on, Grushack is not only crypto-native, but lives at the bleeding edge of digital culture. Working as former Senior Strategy & Product with ConsenSys (the company that created MetaMask), Grushack not only has a wealth of knowledge about the inner workings of blockchain technology, but extends that know-how outwards to those around him. With him, it’s all about community and finding new ways to cultivate knowledge, culture and collective wealth.
“If you’re creating value – if you’re in this space and you want to help, and you do little things here and there, that value will come back around,” says Grushack. “And that’s kind of the beautiful thing about crypto is the ability to send that value instantly, digitally, permissionlessly…”
A man of many hats, Grushack currently splits his time between crypto-centric streaming platform Audius, full service NFT agency six and the wildly popular Friends With Benefits (FWB) DAO.
Having continuously found himself on the right side of blockchain history, Grushack is the greatest proponent of collective effort, embodying the mantra “if you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
One of Grushack’s past endeavors, Ujo Music, showcases just how ahead of the game the crypto visionary truly was. A platform aimed at letting artists create, publish, license and distribute music on the blockchain, although Ujo music isn’t in operation today, it paved the way for ideas like Audius and Catalog to get off the ground when the market was ready.
On the nft now podcast’s fourth episode, the crew discussed the future of music and NFTs, creating value within the NFT community, how DAOs are shaping the future of crypto, Grushack thoughts on the current NFT market and so much more.
From the start of the 2021 NFT bullrun, “value” has taken on many different meanings. We talk about monetary value, historic value, value being created by artists for collectors, etc. It’s clear that to Grushack, value is created and circulated within robust communities.
“The collective hive mind is better than the individual,” he says. “And I think the more you surround yourself with people you can constantly learn from, the better off you are.”
Concerning Audius, Grushack contributes his experience from his time working on Ujo towards disrupting the music industry and its obsolete ideas about copyright and intellectual property. And while the intersection of music and NFTs is still just as new as the NFT space itself, Grushack is surely the person to be towards the forefront of mapping out, and growing a community towards the future of this convergence.
