Dillon Francis on The Future of Music NFTs
While many know Dillon Francis as the premier comedian of the DJ world, he’s worn a great many hats throughout his impressive career. As a producer, DJ, fashion designer, visual artist and all-around creative, it’s no surprise that the superstar has found himself fully immersed in the world of NFTs.
Now a prominent part of the NFT community, Francis has been playing the long game with crypto and decentralization; aligning himself with efforts to democratize music across the board. Having joined fellow music industry professionals like 3LAU, BT and RAC in an endeavor to reclaim the financial system from the archaic music industry, he says the NFT space feels just as revolutionary as the early days of the SoundCloud EDM era.
“It [NFTs] really reminded me of when I first found out about Moombahton, which was the genre that really made my name,” Francis tells nft now. “[Moombahton] was so new, there were no expectations, there were no limits to what you could do. And NFT’s, as I got into them, they felt exactly the same way as that did.”
On this episode of the nft now podcast, Dillon Francis discusses the intersection of DeFi and NFTs, the future of Metaverse music performances and more.
Over the last year, we’ve witnessed musicians of all creeds taking the leap into the world of NFTs. As more creatives realize the potential of blockchain technology to be a vehicle for creating value around their art, Francis is predicting NFTs to be completely disruptive to the music industry.
“Someone’s going to figure out a new way of doing things. And it’s going to be the new norm of how you release music,” Francis tells nft now. “Try to keep your ear to the ground and listen for something that interests you. Dabble in NFTs and see if you can create a community that really wants to participate.”
In 2021, the NFT space has been growing in leaps and bounds. With record-breaking sales and cultural shifts happening on a near quarterly basis, getting involved in NFTs can feel daunting. Yet, Francis says there’s still endless opportunity for those hoping to join the non-fungible movement.
“Just get in. Get in as soon as possible. Make a MetaMask, tinker around, do low-level stuff,” Francis tells nft now. “Right now in NFTs and crypto, it is whatever you want to do. The world is your oyster.”
